Class Structure
Each class begins with one hour of structured learning, focussing on a specific concept or technique. This hour is split into two key parts: Technique and Concept Introduction, then Positional Sparring.
Technique and Concept Introduction
During this time slot we will identify a specific technique, either offence or defence, and break it down step-by-step. You'll learn the mechanics of the movement, explore how an opponent may react, and practice anticipating these reactions to your advantage. From there we follow up with counters before transitioning into positional sparring.
Positional Sparring
In this section, we train from a set position, with the goal of applying the technique or concept we have just learnt. The goal may be on escaping, maintaining control or advancing to a dominant position, while your opponent actively works against you.
This type of sparring develops problem-solving under pressure, as the more techniques you know in a given position, the more challenges you can present to your opponent. In turn, their ability to counter those challenges sharpens their own skills.
Positional sparring is particularly valuable, as it provides a controlled environment to drill key movements and build a solid foundation before moving into full sparring. It is also great way to practice concepts like pressure, timing and positioning without having to start from a neutral stance each time.
Troubleshooting & Live Rounds
After positional sparring, we open up the floor for questions. This is a chance to address issues that came up during training, review details and explore improvements and variations. The time spent on this session depends on the needs of the group on the day.
Advanced students may also use this time to work on specific techniques or work on their own personal goals.
After completion of toubleshooting and questions session we will finish with live rounds.
Our adults classes are suitable for those aged 15+.
